Grade/Focus: Case Manager for the Special Education Department

How long have you been at Cleveland Elementary? I will be finishing my 22nd and last year teaching/Case Managing the Special Education Department at Cleveland, as I will be retiring this year.

What do you love most about teaching?  The kids!! The hugs! The laughter! The joy they bring!! I have really enjoyed my current position as case manager. I love hearing the progress our students are making, as I listen to the students teachers discuss their progress from one year to the next at the IEP meetings. I love learning about our graduates and how they are doing!  We all love when they come back to visit and let us know how their lives have turned out….or when they have children and enroll them here at Cleveland 🙂

What is your favorite thing about Cleveland Elementary?  My favorite thing about Cleveland School is the teachers and paras. There is so much genuine love, caring and enthusiasm our teachers and paras have for our students. It has truly been an honor to work with such a passionate and dedicated staff.

If you weren’t a teacher, what other profession would you enjoy?  If I wasn’t a teacher, I think I would love to be a pediatric nurse.

Do you have any pets?  We have a beautiful gray Labrador. Her name is Chloe. She will be 2 in July. We bought her during the pandemic and she has brought us such joy and laughter!

What is your most favorite place you have visited? Why?  I have 2  favorites:

Pearl Harbor National Memorial and viewing the USS Arizona wreckage in Hawaii. When we took the tour, you could feel the incredible sadness. Being there and seeing the ship under water made it very real.
Grand Canyon…we watched the sun go down one side of the canyon and a full moon rise at the other end of the canyon…it was beautiful!

If you could have 1 superpower, what would it be?  I wish I had the ability to fly. I think getting a bird’s eye view of the world would be so cool…and cheaper than air fare!!!

How many laps did you run in the last Red Bird Hustle? How many do you think you will run in the next one?  If I recall accurately, I believe I did 16 laps. If I am able to return next school year during the Red Bird Hustle, I think I might just hang on the sidelines and be the best cheerleader for the students 🙂
