Grade/Focus: 7th and 8th Grades Reading

How long have you been at Cleveland Elementary? This is my 15th year teaching at Cleveland Elementary.

What do you love most about teaching? What I love most about teaching is fostering the love of reading in my students through reading exciting and interesting texts they can relate to and the insightful classroom discussions that follow. Seeing that “AHA” moment in a student when they discover something new about a character or identify the deeper meaning behind events, dialogue, and the story brings me an abundance of joy!

What is your favorite thing about Cleveland Elementary? My favorite thing about Cleveland Elementary is the group dynamic of working together in a team to achieve a common goal of providing our students with optimal learning opportunities and experiences in a supportive learning environment that will help inspire them to grow, flourish, and achieve their highest potential.

If you weren’t a teacher, what other profession would you enjoy? If I weren’t a teacher I would be an author of young adult novels and short stories and use my influence for humanitarian efforts.

Do you have any pets? My family and I recently adopted two recused six-month-old kittens who are brothers. We named them Wesley and Otis.

What is your most favorite place you have visited? Why? My favorite place to visit is Poland, from the farm in Zakrzow, the mountains of Zakopane, to the Baltic Sea near Sopot and everywhere in between. My husband is from a small farm town in Poland and we make an effort to visit every couple of years and travel the country with our children. I love the culture, food, language, all the beautiful sites, and my family.

If you could have 1 superpower, what would it be? If I had one superpower, it would be to travel in time.

How many laps did you run in the last Red Bird Hustle? How many do you think you will run in the next one? I did not run any laps in the last Red Bird Hustle, I was on the sidelines cheering on my students and fellow teachers. Next year, I will run and try to keep up with Anne Dunipace’s 20 lap record.
